What Is Alumina Ceramic?

Alumina ceramic belongs to a category of high-performance industrial ceramics. It is manufactured by shaping high-purity aluminum oxide powder through pressing, casting, extrusion or additive manufacturing, and then obtaining dense ceramic parts via controlled high-temperature sintering. The final product integrates the inherent characteristics of crystalline α-alumina, such as high hardness, electrical insulation, thermal stability and chemical corrosion resistance, and can be made into dimensionally stable components with precise shapes to meet the rigorous engineering needs in various industries.

Alumina ceramics are manufactured with a variety of purity levels, ranging from general-purpose grades with 85% Al₂O₃ to ultra-high-purity grades reaching 99.9% Al₂O₃ for semiconductor and biomedical fields. Each purity grade provides a specific combination of mechanical, electrical, thermal and chemical properties. Generally, a higher alumina content brings better hardness, electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity and chemical inertness, and the selection of material grade is determined by the performance demands and cost limitations of practical applications.
