What Is Sodium Laureth Sulfate?
Sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) is a kind of anion surface active agent which is obtained by the esterification of lauryl alcohol and then sulfidation with sodium hydroxide. The ethoxylation process — which differentiates SLES from its closely related Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) — involves the incorporation of an EO unit into the molecule, resulting in a marked improvement in softness, dissolution, and compatibility with the skin and mucosa.
SLES is presented as a transparent to somewhat cloudy sticky fluid or paste, usually in 25-70 percent of the active substance. It is freely soluble in water and produces a rich, stable foam across a wide pH and temperature range. Together with their superior emulsification and cleanability, SLES has become one of the world’s largest surface active agents in the world.
Produced according to REACH, COSMOS and ISO, SLES can be used in many different levels for beauty, industry, and professional cleansers – making it an extremely versatile component for manufacturers in a wide variety of end-uses.
Why Choose Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?
-
Exceptional Foaming & Cleansing Performance SLES produces a rich, steady foam that effectively removes all grease, grime and sebum – offering a satisfactory cleansing experience for the final customer with a top quality PPE and home cleaning product.
-
Superior Skin Mildness vs. SLSCompared with SLS, the ethoxylation process dramatically decreases skin irritancy, so that SLES is the first choice of surface active agents for cleansing products such as shampoos, lotions and faces.
-
Excellent Formulation CompatibilitySLES can easily mix with a broad variety of co-surfactants, thickener, conditioner, and active components – allowing manufacturers to create robust, high performance products in various areas of beauty and cleaning.
-
Broad pH & Temperature StabilityKeeping the performance constant over a broad range of pH and temperature, SLES guarantees the consistency of the product during production, storage and final use - lowering the risk of formulation and prolonging the shelf-life of the product.
-
Cost-Effective High-Performance SurfactancySLES is a global producer of surface active agents with well established supply chains – providing excellent surface activity at competitive cost – which is the most economical option for large scale beauty and cleaning products around the world.
Industry Challenges About Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Consumer Perception & Clean Beauty Pressure
Increasing demand for “sulphate-free” and natural health products has caused SLES’s market problems, forcing manufacturers to make clear their safety and efficacy benefits relative to SLS.
Skin Sensitivity in Sensitive Populations
Although SLES has been shown to be more gentle than SLS, it has been known to irritate those with high sensitivity to the skin — restricting its application to those products that are susceptible to the allergy or allergy.
Concentration & Viscosity Management
Although SLES has been shown to be more gentle than SLS, it has been known to irritate those with high sensitivity to the skin — restricting its application to those products that are susceptible to the allergy or allergy.
Raw Material Price Volatility
The production of SLES relies on petroleum based LGA and EO raw materials, which leaves producers and purchasers vulnerable to the volatility of the price of crude oil and the dynamism of the world’s petroleum supply.
Regulatory Compliance Across Markets
SLES preparations have to meet a variety of regulatory requirements in the EU, USA, Chinese and other major markets – making it more difficult to register, mark, and make it easier for formulators and final producers to enter the marketplace globally.
Environmental & Biodegradability Scrutiny
While SLES is thought to be easy to degrade, the growing awareness of the effects of surface active substances in waste water is pushing the need for certified environmentally friendly classes and environmentally friendly manufacturing procedures throughout the PHS.
Why Use Our Sodium Laureth Sulfate?
Rich, Stable Foam Generation
SLES creates rich, long lasting bubbles over a broad variety of water-hardness situations and temperatures – providing the desired lather properties that are conducive to a positive consumer experience with shampoos, lotions, and fluids.
Superior Mildness vs. SLS
Ethoxylation is a significant reduction in the dermal irritancy potential, so that SLES is much more mild compared to sodium lauryl sulphate – a preferred surfactant for rinse-off formulations targeting everyday use and sensitive skin.
Outstanding Formulation Flexibility
SLES is compatible with a wide variety of co-surfactants, stabiliser, thickener, and active components – allowing the manufacturer to have the highest degree of flexibility in the development of robust, high performance products in various parts of the cosmetic and cleaning industry.
